UWLC Leader Honored with "Make it Matter" Award

Last week, United Way of Lincoln County executive director, Alisha Friday, received the “Make it Matter” award from United Way of North Carolina, due to her dedication to serving others, willingness to help at any time, and commitment to leading with integrity, humor, and kindness.

This award was introduced to honor Anita Barker, who retired as Director of Education and Engagement after 14 years of service with United Way of North Carolina. It was created to honor her legacy as she went above and beyond on a daily basis, making every individual she connected with feel like they mattered and helping every community she connected with thrive and grow.

For over 16 years, Friday has dedicated her career to the nonprofit sector, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to service and community betterment. Since assuming the role of executive director, she has led United Way of Lincoln County with exceptional integrity, compassion, and vision, championing projects such as the REA Project and multiple outreach programs across the county.

“I’m so proud of our local United Way being recognized among the state association for the work we are doing in our community,” Friday said upon accepting the award. “This is a testament to the heart and commitment of our staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners." She made it a point to recognize that her work and accomplishments are only possible due to the community of people around her, from her incredible board members to the dedicated volunteers. Each of the individuals involved with UWLC play an integral part in its success.

This award is given out each year at the United Way of North Carolina Conference, and past winners have included Anita Barker (formerly Director of Education and Engagement of United Way of NC), Kristie Hege (President of United Way of Davidson County), and Celesa Willett (Executive Director of United Way of Haywood County).
