Lincolnton, NC—Each year, United Way of Lincoln County launches a campaign that will affect thousands within the community, reaching across several nonprofit programs and outreach efforts, and each year, the Timken Company proves its dedication and commitment to ensuring Lincoln County can address its most vital problems. This year has been no different with the Timken Company raising over $130,000 in payroll pledges from its employees and matching that dollar-for-dollar as a corporation to lead to an astounding $262,150!

This funding will allow United Way of Lincoln County to bolster its 14 partner agencies, which include over 26 programs, ranging from providing free summer camp admittance and caregiver stipends to supporting therapy efforts for children who have been abused and financial mentoring for individuals in need, as well as other outreach programs and needs. The Timken Company consistently shows up for the community, engaging in events and building an internal campaign that leads to exceptional improvements across the county every year.
Valuing compassion for those in need and action to address difficulties, Timken has poured time and energy into engaging its employees, building a culture around caring for neighbors, and looking outside of individual bubbles. Furthered by the want to help more than just themselves, Timken’s committee spent the last several weeks talking to their coworkers and proving the importance of showing up for community members in need. Erin Johnson, a Timken employee since 2022 and a committee member since 2023, said, “I am passionate about giving to the community because I understand the impact it can have on the recipient. Growing up, I was supported by a community with compassion and understanding. Those acts of kindness left an impression on my heart that compel me to pay it forward…Giving back isn’t just something we do—it’s part of who we are as a family.” Her dedication and interest in helping others remains a high motivator for encouraging every employee she knows to engage with Timken’s campaign. Another committee member, Sam Hersom, who joined Timken in July 2025, had a different perspective when looking back over his four-month-tenure of campaigning for United Way. He said, “I pledge to United Way because I know that my funds will go to carefully vetted organizations able to deliver the greatest impact.”
Many on Timken’s committee and who donate to United Way of Lincoln County as a whole value and appreciate the careful inspections that UWLC completes during its allocation process for partner agencies and programs. Whether driven by its trustworthy process or its wide-spread impact across the county, Timken employees built an astounding campaign for United Way of Lincoln County, centered on helping overcome some of Lincoln County’s greatest problems.
Since 2022, the Timken Company has seen a 333% increase in its campaign totals, and having historically averaged approximately $30,000 annually, the $130,000 result is truly astonishing! Because of the consistently incredible showings of community support, the Timken Company has become an anchor of support for all of Lincoln County, embodying a true culture of social responsibility. Many community members and United Way of Lincoln County affiliates point this dedication toward the leadership of Jonathan Waller and Michelle Barnhart, whose motivated and driven spirits never fail to encourage others. In fact, Barnhart encourages other leaders in Lincoln County to host their own workplace campaigns, going so far as to offer support directly. These leaders, along with their entire committee, have hearts built for service and minds built for achievement, and because of that, they stand as a remarkable example of how corporations and local businesses can care for the communities in which they live and work.
