Green New Energy Material Gifts $100K to UWLC

DENVER, N.C. — Green New Energy Materials (GNEM) recently hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its Lincoln County facility, marking an important milestone following two years of preparation to establish the company’s first manufacturing operation in the United States.

GNEM Chairman Xiufeng Chen joined members of the company’s local leadership team for the celebration. Attendees also included Lincoln County elected officials, the county manager and staff from the Lincoln Economic Development Association.

During the ceremony, Chairman Chen announced that GNEM will donate $100,000 to the United Way of Lincoln County. The gift was made as an expression of the company’s gratitude for the support it has received from Lincoln County agencies and community partners throughout the process of establishing its new operation.

GNEM manufactures advanced separator materials used in lithium-ion batteries. The separator is a thin, porous material placed between a battery’s positive and negative components. It prevents the two sides from touching while allowing ions to pass between them, making it essential to the battery’s safety, performance and lifespan. GNEM’s products are used in batteries that power electric vehicles, energy-storage systems, power tools and other industrial and consumer products.

The company announced in 2024 that it would invest approximately $140 million and create 545 jobs in Lincoln County as the operation is fully developed. The Denver facility will manufacture battery separator components for customers throughout North America, with full production expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The ribbon cutting recognized the work completed over the past two years by GNEM and its local, regional and state partners to prepare the facility, support workforce development and guide the company through the process of beginning operations.
